Doug and Nellie Lund followed their daughter Rachel out to Cape Town, South Africa where she was playing for the Women’s Barbarians rugby team. They donated some equipment to a township charity that was helping young people to play football.
In Nelly’s words –
Hi Nicki, just back from delivering the kit bag. Wow…. Is about all I can say, Xolani, James assistant, took us to meet Mario, explaining Mario’s life story and why he does what he does. It’s both heartbreaking and inspiring. I don’t think he knew what we were bringing and he was taken both by surprise and was definitely overwhelmed most especially the bag. But also how he could now spend the money he’d allocated for team shirts. They are attending a tournament on Saturday and he couldn’t wait to see the team’s in their brand new kit with their own colours and brand new!!! I could go on…..
We really didn’t know what would happen, Xolani but also Mario are so deeply committed and inspired and have little else to work with, except for generosity of foreigners. I can fully appreciate why you all do this it’s Something I will never forget x
